Yves Saint Laurent is a French designer who’s best known for designing women’s clothing. Since the brand’s inception in 1961, Yves Saint Laurent has grown into one of the biggest brands in the world and has expanded from clothing. YSL Beauty, Yves Saint Laurent’s beauty brand, is especially popular.
YSL Beauty is known for its luxury makeup, skincare, and fragrances. Their foundations‘ reign; while they are on the pricey side, they make your skin look flawless and provide a decent amount of coverage. Which YSL Foundation should you choose? Here’s a breakdown of the different options and how to find the right product for you.
Touche Éclat Le Teint Foundation
What really makes this foundation stand out is how this foundation makes your skin glow. This foundation is infused with the radiant pigments from the original Touche Éclat illuminating pen. However, your skin won’t look glittery; rather, the radiance booster will give your skin a healthy and natural-looking glow.
Another reason why this foundation is so popular is its longevity. Your foundation will last all day. Even though it’s a full-coverage foundation, it feels very weightless on the skin. Overall, this is the perfect foundation for so many people.
Touche Éclat All-In-One Glow Tinted Moisturizer
If you want the Touche Éclat Foundation with more skincare benefits, then definitely try the tinted moisturizer. This product is an all-in-one foundation, moisturizer, and sunscreen. It offers buildable, medium coverage to even out your complexion and blur imperfections.
The tinted moisturizer has the same luminous finish and has a weightless formula, so it feels comfortable on your skin all day.
Not only that, but this product contains skin-loving ingredients such as vitamin E, hyaluronic acid, and antioxidants. These ingredients hydrate the skin while also improving texture. With SPF 25, you’ll also be protecting your skin from the sun.
The Touche Éclat Tinted Moisturizer is made in France and only contains the best ingredients and pigments. It’s non-comedogenic, oil-free, dermatologist-tested, and talc-free. I usually love using tinted moisturizers under foundation or by themselves for casual days.
Touche Éclat Le Cushion
The best part about the powder is it doesn’t feel cakey. Rather, it’s cooling on the skin and will hydrate as well as giving the skin that glow you love. It’s also formulated with an antioxidant complex.
All Hours Foundation
This is also the ideal foundation if you need something to hold you from the office to the evening. The All Hours Foundation will literally last 24 hours without even slightly fading. This foundation is not only waterproof but also transfer-resistant, so it won’t get on your clothing or phone.
The best part? The All Hours Foundation looks completely natural. It doesn’t give you that cakey, mask-like effect. Rather, it smooths and evens out your skin. The All Hours Foundation is ideal for all skin types, including sensitive skin. It’s even formulated with a skincare complex that shields your skin from environmental stressors.
All Hours Foundation Stick
If you prefer a cream formula, you should try the All Hours Foundation Stick. It’s actually on sale on the YSL website for half the price! It has a cream-to-powder formula, so it dries to a matte finish.
While there are some downsides (for example, the stick isn’t as big as the liquid), the stick foundation offers the same benefits as the liquid foundation.
Nu Bare Look Tint
Formulated with hyaluronic acid, giving your skin 24-hour hydration. It has a creamy yet lightweight texture, melting into your skin perfectly. This is the best product if you want to look like you’re not wearing any makeup.
Le Cushion Encre de Peau Foundation
Using the YSL Foundation Shade Finder
One of the aspects I hate about shopping for foundation online is not knowing your shade. But YSL offers a Foundation Shade Finder for ease. I decided to give this a go and discover my shade. I know I have light skin with neutral undertones, but some brands match me more warm or cool, depending on the shades in their line.
The Finder first asks for your skin color. I was torn between Fair and Light but chose Light since it’s the summer and I’m getting more sun. Next, it asks for your undertone. I chose neutral. Then, you’re asked for your desired finish. Even though I have normal-to-dry skin, I prefer matte finishes.
Then, the Finder gives you three shades that match as close as possible to your skin. This is a little bizarre but whatever. I chose the lightest one, B20. B25 looked too orange and B30 looked too dark. So in the All Hours Foundation, I’m shade B20.
Where to Buy YSL Foundation
Now that you want to try the YSL foundation, where do you actually buy it? A quick search online reveals these places:
This may not be a complete list, so make sure you do a search in your local area for places to buy YSL foundation and other beauty products.
Which Foundation I Should Use?
Before buying a YSL Foundation, I would ask myself these questions:
- Do I want a matte or luminous skin finish?
- Do I have oily skin? If so, a matte finish will be best
- What coverage do I want?
- Which formula do I prefer?
If you want a matte finish, choose the All Hours and choose the Touche Éclat foundation if you want a luminous finish. Both All Hours and Touche Éclat are full-coverage, though the Tinted Moisturizer is a medium/buildable coverage. You can find YSL foundations in liquid, cream, and powder formulas.
YSL Foundation is some of the best you can buy, but it’s pricey. There are other great foundations out there for a fraction of the price.
Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Invisible Cover Foundation
This has been my OG for years. It’s a liquid foundation that has invisible coverage and looks seriously natural. It’s the best daily foundation and doesn’t make me break out. Plus, they have 50 shades, so you can likely find the perfect shade for you.
It’s extremely lightweight and you won’t even know it’s there. The coverage is medium but buildable. Two small pumps are usually enough to cover my whole face.
Armani Beauty Luminous Silk Foundation
If you want an alternative to the Touche Éclat Foundation, take a look at this one from Armani Beauty. It offers a similar luminous glow, but with buildable coverage and a silky finish. This is ideal for someone like me because I hate full coverage. The foundation has 30 tones, so just about anyone can find their shade. It’s even a celebrity favorite!
Guerlain l’Essentiel Natural Glow Foundation
If you want a glowy finish with light coverage, choose the Guerlain l’Essentiel Foundation. Even though it has sheer coverage, it can still mask imperfections and even out skin tone. It’s not only made with 97% natural ingredients but can also protect the skin against environmental stressors.
Huda Beauty #FauxFilter Foundation
This is a great dupe for the All Hours Foundation. You’ll get that same flawless and long-wearing foundation look with full coverage, just like the YSL one. This Huda foundation is available in 30 shades, from the lightest light to seriously deep. It’s a favorite among beauty influencers and has been a bestseller.
Kevyn Aucoin Foundation Balm
If you want your foundation with skincare benefits, Kevyn Aucun has an innovative product that you will love.
Available in a balm-like formula, this foundation offers full and buildable coverage that offers skincare benefits. The foundation is formulated with vitamin E and hyaluronic acid so you get younger-looking skin. Available in 20 shades and also has a brush specifically designed for the foundation.
Nyx Total Control Drop Foundation
Of course, I have to include a drugstore foundation here. The most comparable I could find is the Nyx Total Control Drop Foundation. It’s sold out in literally every shade, so I guess that means this foundation is extremely popular. These drops offer anywhere from sheer to full coverage and have a matte finish.
Question: What Do the Letters Mean in YSL Shades?
Answer: Do you ever want to know how different beauty brands get shade names? Many of them have codes, and YSL is one of them. YSL separates its shades into three letters: B, BD, and BR.
BD means Beige Diore and is used if you have golden undertones. BR means Beige Radiant and is used if you have pink undertones. B means Beige and is used if you have neutral undertones.
Question: Which YSL Foundation Is the Most Popular?
Answer: The Touche Éclat Foundation is their bestseller, but the All Hours Foundation comes in as a close second.
Question: Do Celebrities Use YSL Foundation?
Answer: Looking at this article, Kate Bosworth uses YSL Foundation.
Some other popular mentions are the Armani Beauty foundations (used by Kim Kardashian and Kendall Jenner), Diorskin Nude (used by Gigi Hadid), L’Oreal Paris True Match Lumi Cushion (used by Hailey Baldwin), NARs Sheer Glow (used by Zendaya), Tarte Amazonian Clay (used by Chrissy Teigen), Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua (used by Rosie Huntington-Whitely), and Bobbi Brown Skin Foundation (used by Kate Upton).
Question: Are YSL Foundations Good for Mature Women?
Answer: Because of their full coverage, I wouldn’t recommend them. They may cake into fine lines and wrinkles, accentuating them. Dior Forever is what I would recommend.
Question: Can Foundation Make You Look Younger?
Answer: No one product can make you look younger. It depends on the skincare choices you make and the types of products you use. For example, stay away from powders.
Powders cake and accentuate fine lines and wrinkles. In addition, hydration is key. Keep your skin moisturized. I would recommend a BB cream or tinted moisturizer over any type of foundation for mature skin.
Question: What Is the Best-Selling Foundation of All Time?
Answer: I actually can’t find an answer. Vogue states their favorite foundation is Dior Forever. The best-selling foundation at Sephora is Fenty Beauty Soft Matte Longwear Foundation, though there are several others on this list. I also saw a Maybelline foundation on a similar list, but can’t find the source now.
Question: Do Dermatologists Recommend YSL Foundation?
Answer: If they do, I can’t find it. On the YSL website, the Tinted Moisturizer is dermatologist-tested, but that’s different than dermatologist-recommended. Some dermatologists-recommended foundation brands I can find are Physician’s Formula, Neutrogena, Clinique, and Almay.
Question: Who Should Use a Stick Foundation?
Answer: Those with oily and combination skin will benefit most when using a stick foundation. That surprised me at first, but it makes sense.
Stick foundations are cream-based, but the cream is more solid than traditional creams. That means they can withstand oily skin. However, always choose a foundation with a matte finish.
Yves Saint Laurent is one of the most renowned designers in the world, and the YSL Beauty brand is the pinnacle of luxury. Their foundations are especially popular and are some of their bestsellers. They offer foundations of all coverage levels and in liquid, powder, and cream formulas.
All of their products offer great coverage and are high-quality, so you’ll be satisfied with any foundation you choose.
