A few months ago, I saw the NYX Shine Lip Color all over TikTok. This particular liquid lipstick was being praised for its transfer-proof abilities and super high-shine finish. I personally had never seen a liquid lip that could be both transfer-proof and shiny, so I knew I had to give this product a try.
We’re still amid a pandemic, so masks are required in most places; having a lipstick that can be applied and stay on under a mask is a true game-changer. With that, let’s see if the NYX Shine Loud lip color lives up to the test!
NYX Shine Lip Color Review: Key Features
The Shine Loud Lip Color line from NYX is a non-transferable, high-shine lipstick that provides up to 16 hours of wear. It’s slightly different than most liquid lipsticks in that it has a topcoat that adds shine and isn’t sticky like lipgloss.
NYX claims that this lipstick won’t fade, smudge or bleed and that you can do all of your daily activities without having to worry about it making a mess. A blend of macadamia seed oil, coriander fruit oil, jojoba seed oil, apricot kernel oil, and passion fruit seed oil help to lock in moisture on the lips, so you don’t end up with chapped lips after application.
The product comes in 12 different shades that range from nude to bold. I got the shade ‘Ambition Statement,’ a deep peachy nude shade. Eventually, I would love to give the bold red shade a try- it’s called ‘Rebel In Red’!
Simply swipe on the pigment-packed base coat for a pop of loud color, let dry, then add the top coatāa long-lasting lip glossāfor a non-sticky finish.
Pros:
- Smooth application and amazing high shine payoff;
- Great range of colors available;
- Opaque application on the first swipe; not much need to re-dip into the tube for more product;
- The pointed doe-foot applicator makes it easy to apply the product on your cupid’s bow and inner corner;
- You can use the high-shine lip lacquer over top of any other liquid lip.
Cons:
- I found it very hard to find the product in stock at my local drugstore. It might not be as much of a problem now that the product isn’t as viral;
- You have to be quite patient when applying the first layer; if you don’t wait long enough, the lipstick can smudge all over your lipline, and then you have to start from square one;
- The high-shine topcoat does fade quite quickly if you’re sipping from a coffee mug or water bottle;
- Even though there is a good range of shades, it would be nice to have even more options.
The OG fan-fave Butter Gloss is now available in clear to bring you glossy perfection with our non-sticky shine. Wear it on its own or over your favorite lipstick or liner. Butter Gloss is the lip gloss for anyone, anywhere, anytime. Get free Butter Gloss Mini with a $30 purchase.
Where and What to Buy
As previously mentioned, there are 12 different shades in this range that include six nude and six bold colors. As this lipstick is meant to make an impact, I would suggest picking up one of the bold colors; while I was wearing my peachy-nude shade around, I wished I had picked up a red or a pink so that the high-shine look would really stand out.
If you’re looking to pick up this lipstick, there are a few different purchasing options. You can first check out your local drugstore to see if they have an NYX kiosk. The only issue with local drugstores is that they don’t tend to have testers to try, so it might be hard to tell how the shades will look with your skin tone.
Sephora itself doesn’t carry NYX, but you can try checking out your local Ulta if you live in the U.S.; if you don’t, you can still shop internationally on Ulta’s website.
The next option will be to see if your local mall has a stand-alone NYX flagship store, as you would be able to chat with actual NYX-trained makeup artists. If all else fails, you can shop directly on the NYX website; what’s cool about the site is that you can virtually try on any of the Shine Loud shades using A.I. technology. First Impressions & Application
What first caught my eye with this product is that it had a shiny topcoat; all of the liquid lipsticks that I currently own are quite matte/drying, and when I use a lipgloss to make them shinier, they end up bleeding out of my lipline or leaving lip imprints on mugs and masks. I was so excited at the chance to wear a glossy lip color that wouldn’t do any of those annoying things.
To apply this lipstick, NYX says to first put on the color coat and let it sit for around 90 seconds. Then, you can apply the clear glossy coat to lock in the staying power and provide maximum shine! I would recommend using a lip primer and lip liner with this liquid lipstick, as it will extend the wear time and make your lips looks smoother.
Once I applied each coat and let it settle, I was left with such a beautiful and full pout, and I was hooked! I love the ability to create a high-shine finish without having to use a separate lip gloss product. When you use a lip gloss over a liquid lipstick, it tends to smudge and ruin the application you just did.
All-Day Wear
I think that the Shine Loud Lip Colour lasted quite well throughout the whole day! As you can see, there is slightly more wear in the inner part of my lips, and the glossy topcoat is gone; I didn’t expect it to last through the day, though.
Given that I drank hot coffee and wore my mask a lot, I’m super surprised that it didn’t wear away more on the entire lip-I guess the 16h wear claim is quite accurate. If the inner lip wear bothered you, you could always re-apply it on the go; make sure to wait 90 seconds before drinking anything!
What I specifically like about the wear on this product is that it doesn’t look too ‘separated’ or ‘crackly’ If you did find that your lips had this appearance, which would happen in winter, you could always re-apply the top coat to add in some more shine and moisture.

Buxom Va-Va-Plump Shiny Liquid Lipstick
This liquid lipstick has the same shine payoff and staying power as the Shine Loud Liquid Lipcolour. This lipstick comes in 20 different shades that range from nudes to pinks to reds.
Buxom claims that this lipstick will last ‘from dusk until dawn’ and leave your lips looking volumized, without irritation. This lipstick actually has the built-in plumper formula from Buxom’s famous stand-alone plumping lip gloss. Essentially, if you’re looking for a liquid lipstick that will give you luscious lips without smudging or fading, pick up this product!

M.A.C. Cosmetics Love Me Liquid Lip Colour
This primer-infused liquid lipstick is creamy and hydrating and claims to last for 12 hours of wear- it’s similar to the Va-Va-Voom Liquid Lipstick. It helps moisturize the lips with a blend of oils, including argan oil, coconut oil, shea butter, carnauba butter, and barley, and cucumber extract.
This product comes in eight different shades that are mostly reds, and pinks-I personally think that this lipstick should have more nude shades, but if that’s what you’re looking for, M.A.C. has a massive range of traditional bullet lipsticks to choose from.

Kiko Milano Unlimited Double Touch Liquid Lipstick
This liquid lipstick is an exact dupe for the Shine Loud liquid lipstick; it has a quick-drying and transfer-proof bottom color coat that sets within 90 seconds and a glossy sealant topcoat that adds shine but also aids in transfer resistance.
The great thing about this lipstick is that it comes in 27 different colors, so if you like the glossy formula of Shine Loud, you can pick up even more colors from Kiko!

FAQs
Question: Can you re-apply a liquid lipstick throughout the day?
Answer: You can definitely re-apply liquid lipsticks throughout the day. However,Ā when you re-apply a quick-drying liquid lip too many times, it can get ‘cakey,’ and you can get a ‘lip cracking’ effect. I have a few quick tips for you to ensure that this doesn’t happen:
⢠Use a moisturizing lip primer before your first application; this will help to ease any lip drying and cakiness;
⢠Only re-apply when it is really necessary; if you re-apply at any sign of wear, you’ll quickly reach that heavy makeup look;
⢠When you do re-apply, only do so in the areas that have significantly worn away; this will ensure that you’re not building up too many full layers on your lips;
⢠If you’re wearing your lipstick from day to a night out, I would recommend quickly removing the lipstick with a makeup wipe and starting over with a new application; this will make it easier in the long run. If you’re on the go, you can use a damp tissue to blot away most of the product for re-application. However, I would recommend always having a small pack of makeup wipes in your bag-they now make mini packs of 5 you can conveniently fit in your bag.
Question: What is a good lip liner to pair with a liquid lip?
Answer: NYX has a really good lip liner range that I would recommend under both the Shine Loud Lip Colour and any other NYX lipstick. My top choice is the Suede Matte Lip Liner, as it comes in 66 different shades, which means that you’ll find a perfect shade match to whichever liquid lip color you’re wearing.
Question: How can I make my liquid lipstick application look smooth and crisp?
Answer: It’s super easy to make a liquid lipstick look crisp and smooth. Here are a few quick tips:
Even if a liquid lipstick’s doe-foot applicator is good for overall application, you’ll get crisper lines if you use a tailored lip brush. Simply dip the brush into the tube and apply from there; if your brush is too thick to dip into the tube, place a small amount of liquid onto the back of your hand and go from there;
Once you’ve finished your application, use a q-tip with a small amount of makeup remover on it; this will ensure that you won’t get a stain on your skin and will set you up for the next step;
Lastly, take a thin edging or liner brush with a small amount of concealer and line the outline of your lipstick application. Now, you’ll have a super crisp liquid lipstick application that’s sure to wow everyone!
Overall Experience
Overall, I really enjoyed using the Nyx Shine Loud Lip Color. I was very impressed at its staying power and at how glossy and full it made my lips look. I think my only complaint would be that there aren’t too many shade range options, and because of its popularity, it can be quite difficult to find the shade that you want.
Simply swipe on the pigment-packed base coat for a pop of loud color, let dry, then add the top coatāa long-lasting lip glossāfor a non-sticky finish.
