Final Verdict

Overall NYX has a small blush line, but thankfully this makes for an easy decision. Starting off with Sweet Cheeks Matte and the Sweet Cheeks Glow blush, you can add color to your face for the day/night you want a bold, glam look. Deciding between the two of these, I would highly suggest purchasing the Sweet Cheeks Matte blush, I like going for a matte look when I am doing a glam look. 

Sweet Cheeks tint and Bare With Me Cheek serum are both perfect for a natural look, although the tint has a mattifying appearance and the serum as a luminous appearance. If we’re deciding between one of these I would highly suggest the cheek tint because of the variety of colors that are offered. 

To summarize, if you’re looking for a glam look, buy the Sweet Cheeks Matte blush. If you’re doing a natural look, buy the Sweet Cheeks tint. 

How to Apply Blush Perfectly 

When it comes to applying blush, I’m sure you know how to apply it, but are you doing it the right way? Are you struggling in placing it in the correct area? It’s okay! We have some tips and tricks to make sure you are applying your blush perfectly. Let’s get to it!

Start Out With Your Face Shape 

Blush is designed to deliberately enhance your face, which means you must first consider your bone structure before applying it. 

Oval: Your face is oval if it is long, with strong cheeks, a smaller chin, and a thin forehead. Glen suggests starting at the most prominent portion of the cheekbone and blending blush down towards the earlobe and up towards the temple with delicate sweeps. Also, for balance, add a smidgeon right above the temple. 

Square/Rectangular: A square/rectangular face features straight edges and a relatively flat jawline (think Olivia Wilde or Angelina Jolie). You want to target the entire cheekbone from the corner of the brow to the hairline if you have a square or rectangular face. Sweep blush across the cheekbone in long, gentle strokes, starting low and working your way up. Apply blush from the brow to the bridge of the nose, blending it in gently.

Round: You have a round face if your cheeks are the widest section of your face and your jawline is curved. Look in the mirror, smile, and then swipe blush on the apples of your cheeks for the finest results. Brush color up towards the temple and down towards the earlobe using a foundation brush and medium-sized strokes to mix. 

Diamond: You have a diamond-shaped face if your face is narrow at the forehead and jawline and the highest point is your cheekbones. Knowing how to apply blush to a diamond-shaped face can assist to bring more attention upward and soften your appearance. Apply blush to the tops of your cheekbones and sweep toward your ears.

Heart: You have a heart-shaped face if your face is long, with high cheekbones and a narrow chin. From the top of the temple to the cheekbone, apply blush in a “C” shape. More product should be applied along the cheekbone, then diffused up to the temple, pressing it in and upwards. Because it’s on more than just the cheeks, you don’t want to go excessive with your application.

Prepping Your Skin 

I’m sure we all have a way to start off our makeup routine when prepping our skin. But if you don’t have a way or are not sure how to start, here’s an idea: wash and moisturize your skin. Starting off with a clean canvas allows your face to have a better grip on the makeup, making it last a bit longer.

You will then want to use a primer, I suggest a no pore primer. This type of primer helps to conceal and protect pores, allowing for your makeup to stay put. You’re then ready to start your application.

Picking a Shade That Works for Your Skin 

Blush isn’t a one-size-fits-all product; you need to choose the correct colour to complement your skin tone. Instead of giving you that warm, youthful glow, anything too dark or too brilliant might actually age you. The idea is to pick something that’s near to your natural blush, which you can find out by pinching your cheeks. If you’re still undecided, use these guidelines to determine your ideal shade: 

Darker complexion tones should go for brighter colors with warm undertones, such as a brilliant apricot, for an ethereal glow and luminous effects. 

The warm undertones of golden or olive complexion tones can stand up to brighter, punchier pinks. To give your complexion a lovely shine, consider a peachy pink tint if you have light-medium skin. If you’re unsure, try it in your preferred formula because this color is universally attractive.

If you have really pale, fair skin, soft pinks will give you a beautiful flush of color without overpowering your complexion. Pale pink and lilac formulations provide a delicate wash of color that complements your fair skin without being overpowering.

Finding the Right Formula For Your Skin Type 

It’s not only about the hue when it comes to choosing the ideal blush; it’s also about finding the proper formula. Powders, creams, and stains are the three varieties of blushes.

Stick to a powder product if you have dry skin. Powder blush is fantastic for sliding over pores for a blurring effect, while stains and creams, contrary to common opinion, aren’t ideal for dry skin since they can split when they dry, exacerbating the appearance of dryness.

Creamy formulations are suitable for normal or mixed skin and have a long-lasting power. Cream blush is simple to apply, comes in a variety of hues, and gives skin a fresh, young appearance.

A cheek stain works great if you have oily skin. Even if you sweat a lot or have oily skin, stains look dewy and stay a long time. Apply a small amount at a time because it’s difficult to blend out after it’s set into your skin (thus the name!).

It should be dense, natural, or vegan hair that is silky and allows the color to be diffused easily. A tightly packed brush might take up too much product and oversaturate your face with color, whereas a loose brush picks up less product while still providing a pleasing color result.

Making Sure You Blend 

It’s not enough to apply blush in the appropriate places; you also need to make sure it’s blended well. Blend your blush into your face with a moist sponge or a stiff brush. Keep in mind that your blush should resemble a natural flush rather than clown makeup. You want the color to mix smoothly with no sharp lines while yet providing a vibrant glow.

Accidentally Applied Too Much? 

If you apply too much blush, don’t go for the makeup remover. Instead, use a damp makeup sponge to evenly put a little thin liquid foundation over a bright blush to tone it down. This will reduce the color intensity while maintaining a rosy shine.
