Younique is an American brand launched by CEO Derek Maxfield. It is a relatively new venture in the beauty world, debuting in 2012. The Younique brand offers many beauty products, including makeup, skincare, and anti-aging serums.

The company also offers various resources to women who have been a victim of child sexual abuse to cope with their trauma and spread awareness on the topic. Today, we have perfected a guide on the Younique makeup foundation and some great alternatives to help you pick the fit that’s customized to your exact preferences. So let us get to it!

YOUNIQUE TOUCH Serum + Foundation

The Younique Foundation offers one of the widest, most diverse variety of available shades that, surprisingly enough, is still not offered by many market leaders who have been in the game for a while now. This means that no matter your skin color or undertone, you’re sure to find your exact match in the Younique foundation line.

Unfortunately, it does not fare as well in terms of coverage and performance. The foundation comes on greasy and doesn’t even offer any moisturization benefits. Furthermore, the coverage provided is below average while marketed as providing full coverage.

Though the Younique brand aims to redeem itself by claiming to revolutionize its foundation by infusing it with a serum that offers anti-aging properties and protection against environmental damage, so you repair and replenish your skin while going about your day with your usual made-up face.

Pros

• A wide variety of available shades.
• Attractive packaging.
• Infused with skin protection serum.

Cons

• Too expensive to offer value for money.
• It can feel greasy.
• Doesn’t offer much coverage.

Ingredients

This foundation contains many amazing ingredients, but I want to name two that stood out to me. Sodium hyaluronate, will give your skin that smooth appearance and make it appear plumper.

Ectoin, this ingredient helps to protect your skin against blue light damage and stress from the environment. And if you still want to look as if you are in your 20’s by the time you are in your late ’30s and even ’40s this ingredient will help you achieve that by its hydrating and nourishing properties.

There are 25 different shades of this Younique Touch Foundation, so you are sure to find the shade that is the right fit for you.

Application

Usually, liquid foundations are best applied with fingertips as they offer a warming effect which makes for better blending. However, the Younique liquid foundation is quite runny, so it’s better to place a few drops on your cheeks, forehead, and chin and then blend it out with a makeup brush. Although why anyone would bother to do so is a complete mystery unless you have a clear complexion. 

Alternative to the Younique Touch Liquid Foundation: Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation 

This is hands down the holy grail of liquid foundations, it comes at a hefty price, but if you can afford to splurge, this is your best bet. This has everything in making a great foundation – buildable coverage, not oily yet not dry, gives a luminous glowing skin, and feels like a second skin! 

YOUNIQUE TOUCH complexion + pressed powder foundation

This variation of the Younique foundation is perhaps, by far, the best of its counterparts. It offers moderate coverage and is more suitable for oily skin types. It can be a viable option for touch-ups or if you’re in a hurry and want a little coverage for your blemishes and uneven skin tone.

If finding your foundation shade is always a problem, worry no more. Because the Younique Pressed Powder foundation has 25 shades to choose from. Say goodbye to the days where the color of your face was 3 times darker than the rest of your body.

Ingredients

This product contains many amazing ingredients, but there were a few that caught my eye. And I just need to share them with you!

Shea Butter, you can basically see this ingredient as a conditioner but for your skin.

Kaolin, if you have any fine lines or pores, this ingredient will definitely help for that.

Pros

• Easy to carry in your purse.
• Great for quick touch-ups
• Offers moderate coverage.
• Suitable for oily skin.
• Made with mostly natural ingredients, it is ideal for sensitive skin.

Cons

• It’s too drying for normal and dry skins.
• A tad costly.
• Does not offer full coverage.

Application

Shake the powder container before each use to disperse the primer. Carefully pick a little of the product with a makeup brush and tap to dust off any excess. Apply more of the product as per your coverage requirements. 

Alternative to the Younique Compressed Powder Foundation: Fenty Beauty Pro Filt’r Soft Matte Powder Foundation

This reasonably priced product is perfect when you’re on the go. It has an array of shades to choose from, so you can select your ideal match. Plus, it offers excellent coverage, especially for a powder foundation. It feels very light and has a long-lasting stay.

YOUNIQUE TOUCH Spray Foundation

This variation of the Younique foundation has an effortless application and offers good coverage. It’s especially suitable for people with dry skin who find blending out a foundation perfectly, difficult. Furthermore, it is also the non-greasiest of the lot and yet doesn’t dry out the skin.

The Younique Touch Spray Foundation comes in 19 amazing different shades, so you are sure to find the shade that matches your skin tone the best.

Ingredients

This Touch Spray Foundation contains many amazing ingredients, but I want to share with you the one’s that I love the most.

Macadamia Integrifolia Seed Oil, Hydrogenated Polyisobutene, and Caprylyl Methicone, are all ingredients that serve as a conditioner for your skin and helps your skin feel smooth and full of life.

Application

Shake the bottle well before each application. Either spray the product on a foundation brush and then apply it to the face, which can be wasteful. Or spray directly onto your face and then blend it with a foundation brush with inward circular movements until the whole face and neck are covered.

• Effortless application.
• Travel-friendly packaging.
• Offers good coverage.

Cons

• Doesn’t last the whole day.
• The price is a little too steep.
• They might waste the product because of the spraying technique.

Alternative to the Younique Touch Spray Foundation: Christian Dior Airflash Spray Foundation

This is the perfect choice for people with sensitive skin; it offers maximum coverage and gives a very healthy, natural, and glowing look – a tall order to fill in a foundation. Although, it does tend to suit dry skin types more and can be a little heavy for oily skin.

YOUNIQUE TOUCH Stick Foundation

This variation of the Younique foundation is the best in terms of coverage. However, like most stick foundations, the consistency is too thick to blend easily on dry skin types and, therefore, might leave a patchy look. Also, it can be too heavy and greasy on hot, humid days.

It has a great list of ingredients that holds many benefits for your skin, and I want to share with you my 3 favorite ingredients that all have conditioning benefits for your skin:

Application

Apply the stick to the focal points of your face and neck, then blend it out with your fingers, a foundation brush, or a beauty blender. Although using your fingers is best. Furthermore, the stick can be applied to specific areas of blemishes or uneven skin tone, like the under eye, and can be used as a concealer or a touch-up accessory throughout the day.

• Offers the best coverage of all the variations of the Younique Foundation.
• Very easy to apply.
• Easy to carry, no worry of a product spill.

Cons

• It may not be suitable for people with dry skin.
• Costly.
• It can feel a little too heavy.

Alternative to the Younique Touch Stick Foundation: Makeup Forever Ultra HD Stick Foundation 

This is an excellent alternative if you are dead set on getting a stick foundation. Unlike most stick foundations, it glides on super smoothly and is very easy to blend while not being oily at all. It also offers maximum coverage, all in all – a product worth its price.

BB FLAWLESS complexion enhancer

Like all BB creams, this is a tinted moisturizer. It is also packed with ingredients like vitamin E to maintain healthy, well-moisturized skin while offering slight coverage.

This BB cream can also be used as a primer topped off with more products for further coverage.

Shades of the BB Flawless Complexion Enhancer

This BB Flawless Complexion Enhancer comes in 6 different shades and its name fits it perfectly! Because it really leaves your complexion looking “flawless”.

Here are some of my favorite ingredients that has conditioning features for your skin:

• Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter Extract
• Limnanthes Alba (Meadowfoam) Seed Oil (Skin conditioning agent)

Application

Apply this product to a freshly washed face like a moisturizer. Use your fingers to spread out the product or if you’re iffy about using your fingers, use a foundation brush or wet sponge to spread the product.

Pros

• Works well as a moisturizer.
• Mostly made of natural ingredients.
• Suitable for sensitive skin.

Cons

• Costly.
• It can be hard to blend.
• Very slight coverage.
• Poor quality packaging.

Alternative to the BB Flawless Complexion Enhancer: Perfect Cover BB Cream SPF24/PA+++ by Missha

Although expensive, this alternative is worth its price. You get great coverage, especially for a BB cream, deliciously smooth moisturized skin, as well as a high SPF protection. Moreover, this cream leaves a very subtle, matte finish that blends well with the skin to give you a flawless, makeup-free look.

My Opinion

I feel that the Younique Foundation line has invested a lot in aesthetics and in appearing “younique” but hasn’t paid as much heed to the actual results and quality of their selling products. The prices are very steep, perhaps in a bid to appear more high-end, but if that’s the case, it has failed miserably.

Some great alternatives are available in the beauty industry, some of them listed above. In this case, I would recommend going for the alternative over choosing the Younique brand any day.
