- Clinique Almost Lipstick Review: What We Love About This Lipstick - September 7, 2023
If you’re here, you probably already know how tough it can be to find the perfect liquid lipstick, let alone one that is transfer-proof. I’ve personally tried so many different products across numerous brands and I can safely say that the Rouge Dior Forever Liquid Transfer Proof lipstick is one of the best options on the market right now.
As a makeup artist myself, I can be quite picky when it comes to the formula and wear of a liquid lipstick; I love a full coverage look, but I absolutely hate the cakey feel that they can sometimes bring.
Well, this liquid lip lives up to this promise, as well as a slew of other amazing features that I’ll go over in this article. I truly think that Dior has hit the nail on the head with Forever Liquid and I’m so excited to share my take on it
This transfer-proof liquid lipstick doesn't settle into lip lines, fade, smudge, or feather. The ultra-lightweight formula provides intense color that lasts 12 hours* and remains comfortable, even with the stresses of everyday life.
Key Features
This Dior lipstick is quite new to the liquid lipstick scene, having come out only a couple of months ago. As of now, this specific line only has 10 shades, but they are all wearable for every skin tone; I chose to pick up the nude-pink shade called Forever Paris.
The brand claims that this matte liquid lip will stand up to 12 hours of wear while also remaining weightless and comfortable on the lips. But the even bigger claim that this lipstick provides is that it won’t settle into lip lines, fade, smudge or feather.
What is cool to note is that Dior actually did an instrumental test in the development stage of the lipstick, so their claims are backed by initial research.
Pros:
- Wears well throughout every season, even in sweltering hot weather
- Doesn’t fade awkwardly on the outer corners of the mouth or the inner corners
- Doesn’t require a lip liner underneath for opaque coverage
- Great range of nude shades for every skin tone
- Free from harmful chemicals/irritants
Cons:
- Limited bold shade range (mostly neutrals available)
- Quite pricey compared to other liquid lipsticks
- Some of the product can fall into the groove of the doe-foot tip
Where and What to Buy
As previously mentioned, The Forever Liquid Lipstick comes in ten different shades, which are mostly nude, aside from their signature Dior red shade that is included.
What I do love about the colours they have selected is that aside from truly neutral or more brown nude shades, Dior had included slightly burgundy and brick tones as well, so there is so great variety. I was considering two different shades, and I ended up picking the more pinky-nude shade Forever Paris, which I’m super happy about because it doesn’t completely wash me out.
If you’re looking to pick one of these lippies up, I would definitely recommend going through the Sephora website, as I found this was the easiest way to order everything and have it shipped right to my door.
I actually went looking for the product in-store, specifically at the Nordstrom and Hudson’s Bay Dior counters, but they didn’t yet have them in the physical stores. The only caveat with ordering on the Sephora website is that some of the shades are out of stock, but I find that it doesn’t take very long for them to restock.

My Experience
I ordered the shade ‘Forever Paris’, which Dior describes as ‘a bright rosewood’. I’ll be honest, I’m a makeup artist and I’m not entirely sure why they use that specific descriptor, but basically, this shade is a perfect pink nude for very light to medium-deep skin tones and more of a statement pink shade for deeper complexions.
First Impressions & Application
What really caught my eye with this product was the packaging; it just made me feel luxurious, and I wanted to dive right into the first application as soon as I opened its shiny silver box. The actual tubing of the lipstick is quite elegant and uses the familiar silver metal accent that can be seen on many of Dior’s other beauty products. What else I like about this packaging is that it’s quite sturdy and doesn’t seem like it’ll break easily if stuffed into a purse or travel bag.
My first application was super smooth, and I actually didn’t need to dip into the product twice, which means that over time I won’t waste product or have to cake it on to see any real colour payoff.
As you can see from my first application photo, my lips look quite smooth, and there aren’t any terrible ‘cracking’ lines that you typically see with some long-lasting lipsticks. I also really love the colour; it’s not so nude that I look washed out, but it is also not so bold that I have to worry about what colour shirt I’m wearing.
Wear Test: How Does It Stand Up To My Day
This lipstick wore very well throughout the entire day, and I even wore it to the gym, so that really shows that it gets quite close to living up to the claims set out on the product packaging.
I also did a hot coffee test as well, as that seems to be where most people lose the majority of the colour, alongside eating hot or oily foods. I’ve found in the past that most liquid lipsticks just need reapplying right after drinking any hot drinks, but I actually didn’t need to touch up anything at all afterwards.
As you can see from my photo, after the entire day, my lips do have a bit more of that ‘cracking’ look, but that could easily be fixed with a quick touch-up or application of a silky gloss on top. There is definitely also some fading that you can see in the inner part of my lip, but that is to be expected since it always stays quite moist with saliva throughout the day.
Alternatives
Even though I think the Dior liquid lip is hard to match, I want to provide you with a few alternatives in case you’re unable to find your desired shade or if you don’t want to spend the higher price tag attached to the product. As with any lip product, some formulas might not work as well for you as they may for me, but each of these products gets great reviews and you’re sure to find something you like in this list below.
MAC Powder Kiss Liquid Lipcolour
This liquid lipstick from M.A.C. boasts a mousse-like texture and is suitable for up to ten hours of wear. What is unique about this product is that it delivers focused moisture to the lips, which might help make sure that you don’t get the ‘cracking’ lip look that I mentioned had happened with the Dior lipstick after all-day wear.
Something else that is also great about this product line is that it comes in a whopping 21 shades, so you’re sure to find a colour that really works for your taste and skin tone.
Powder Kiss now includes a Liquid Lipcolour to give you that blurred, high-impact matte look. Experience a weightless kiss of colour delivering ten hours of moisture.
Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick
The Stila liquid lipstick has a unique creamy-matte texture that claims to last for 6 hours of continuous wear. What gives this lipstick its creamy and moisturizing texture is a unique blend of Vitamin E and avocado oil; this also helps in a very smooth application, especially in drier climates. This product comes in 15 different shades, with both a variety of nude and bolder shades so that you can find what fir you best.
This full-coverage creamy-matte liquid lipstick delivers bold, long-lasting color and stays in place for up to twelve hours of continuous wear.
KVD Vegan Beauty Everlasting Liquid Lipstick
The Everlasting Liquid Lipstick line is quite iconic, having been one of the first product lines to introduce high-end transfer-proof lipstick that also came in both eye-catching and practical shades. This product can provide a full application with just one dip of the applicator, which was also a perk of the Dior Forever Liquid Lip.
This product comes in 20 different shades, with their most universal shade ‘Lolita’, which suits every skin tone in its own unique way. KVD is also an entirely vegan brand, so you can shop with peace of mind while you pick up your favorite shade.
Unleash high-pigment, long lasting lipstick with an effortless swipe of the doe-footed wand. Everlasting Liquid Lipstick makes it easy to get a crisp, precise lip look.
Sephora Collection Cream Lip Stain Liquid Lipstick
Sephora Collection has really hit it out of the park with this liquid lipstick line; not only are they quite affordable, but they also have the most variety out of all the brands I’ve discussed above, with both matte finishes and metallic finishes.
This product line has 86 shades, which is something I’ve never seen before; there really is every shade under the sun, from nude shades to red shades, to purple shades and even green shades. Something else that’s also cool about this line is that they often go on some sort of promotion, so you can save a few bucks while shopping!
A lip stain that provides beautiful, long-lasting colour.
FAQs
Question: Are liquid lipsticks better than regular lipsticks?
Answer: Liquid lipsticks are not necessarily better than regular lipsticks, it just depends on what kind of finish and wear time you’re aiming to achieve. Now that liquid lipsticks have great formulas, that are also transfer-proof, I would definitely say that they are the best options if you’re looking to wear lipstick with a mask. If you’re worried about the ‘cracking’ effect that can sometimes happen with liquid lipsticks, then you can definitely apply a moisturizing lip primer underneath so that this doesn’t happen.
Question: Does Dior have any other long-wearing products?
Answer: Dior actually does have a super long-wearing foundation in their product line that is called, Dior Forever 24h* Wear High Perfection Skin-Caring Matte Foundation. It provides great medium-full coverage and contains skin-loving ingredients that help your skin stay flawless throughout the day. I know with most traditional long-wearing foundations, the consistency tends to be more on the full-coverage and heavy side, but Dior has created this great option so that you can feel good while wearing it.Â
Question: Do I need a lip primer underneath a transfer-proof lipstick?
Answer: Because transfer-proof liquid lipsticks tend to be very opaque and are easier to apply, I often find that I don’t need a lip primer underneath to keep the lipstick on all day. I always say, however, that you can never go wrong with adding priming products underneath your makeup; adding a primer will make the product hold for even longer and can help make the application on drier lips go more smoothly.
Rouge Dior Forever Liquid Transfer-Proof Lipstick Review: Bottomline
After putting the Dior Forever Liquid Transfer Proof Lipstick to the test, I can definitely say that it has become one of my favourite go-to’s in my makeup kit. From the formulation to the range of nude shades, I can’t recommend this lipstick enough.
Even though the price tag on one tube is more substantial than most other products out there, you are getting both great packaging and product features that live up to their claims. The only thing that I think could be mildly improved is the addition of new, bolder shades so that shoppers can pick up a variety if they so desire.
My biggest piece of advice for using this lipstick is to still use a lip primer and matching lip liner so that you end up with less lip ‘cracking’ and fading in the inner portion of your mouth.
