Best L’Oreal Concealer Options

Latest posts by Kelsey Purcell (see all)

From skincare to haircare to nail polish and more, L’Oréal is a recognizable and iconic brand in the beauty industry. With over 100 years of history in the world of beauty, L’Oréal adapts and changes to meet the market, which is why their products are so enduring and are still a go-to for beauty lovers!

Even before I knew anything about makeup, I gravitated towards L’Oréal cosmetics – potentially in part because of their classic packaging, but also because it was a brand that my mother used when I was growing up, and there was some nostalgia, too!

Once I tried their products, I was hooked! Because it’s such an accessible drugstore brand, it’s incredibly budget-friendly, so as a student working the cosmetic counter at a high-end drug store, it was all I could afford, but when I reached adulthood, I kept buying it for the quality.

I almost exclusively use their shampoo and conditioner and brow gel and am convinced their mascara is the best the drugstore offers. But their concealer is also my go-to!

Whether you’re struggling with blemishes, dark circles like me, or simply want to skip foundation and choose a light coverage option, L’Oréal concealers are top-notch. Still, they have several different formulas for your needs and preferences, so here are all the options you can choose from!

Bottom Line Up Front

As someone with fair skin and obvious veins, I need a full-coverage concealer to beat my dark circles and keep me from looking like an extra in The Walking Dead. The Infallible Full Wear Concealer is my saviour! Keep on reading to discover the pros and cons of L’Oréal’s full line of concealers.

How to Choose the Right Concealer

concealer

I would personally never buy a concealer online unless I’ve bought it before in person. Foundation is tough enough to buy (unless you’re like me – I’m so translucent I can pick the lightest shade and know it’ll be right), but concealer is a whole other problem, especially if your biggest concern is your under-eye.

Choosing Your Concealer Shade

If you are shopping within the same brand or line of face makeup, most foundations have a corresponding concealer that will match perfectly. This is an excellent option if you’re mainly covering scars or blemishes. The last thing you want is to choose the wrong shade and have your pimples stand out after trying to hide them.

Go to the drug store, Sephora, or any other makeup shop you love and try before you buy! That’s why testers exist! Swipe your concealer along your jawline for the best match.

If you’re looking for a concealer specifically for your under-eye, go for a lighter shade – it will brighten up your eyes and make your skin look luminous and radiant.

How to Choose Coverage

You don’t necessarily need the heaviest concealer to cover dark spots under your eyes. If your dark circles are minor, using a luminous concealer will go a long way in reducing their appearance.

For blemishes and pimples, depending on your level of redness, you can pull out the big guns. The key is to choose a buildable formula so you can customize the coverage so you don’t overdo it but still effectively hide the blemishes.

If you’re struggling with hyperpigmentation, you’ll want to go for a colour-correcting concealer before using a traditional concealer. Yellow helps cancel out brown hyperpigmentation, and purple helps restore radiance.

One of the most adaptable and versatile concealers is the Infallible Full Wear Concealer. It does more than just conceal and is a total powerhouse! Keep reading on to learn more about the full range of L’Oréal concealers.

True Match Multi-Use Concealer

True Match Multi-Use Concealer

A medium-coverage option, the True Match Multi-Use Concealer has a soft-touch applicator that feels smooth on the skin, and whether you’re focused on your under-eye or stubborn pimples, this blendable formula helps create a natural cover to even skin tone.

While I love this super compact and slim tube, I don’t particularly appreciate that there’s always going to be leftover product that is unreachable. As someone who likes to squeeze out every last drop of product, this is an annoying design.

Pros

  • Built-in applicator for more hands-free use.
  • Completely blendable without drying out skin.

Cons

  • I can’t get over how difficult it is to dispense concealer from the container – it’s simply awful.

True Match Crayon Concealer

True Match Crayon Concealer

If you need a buildable formula that’s adaptable to light coverage to full coverage, the True Match Crayon Concealer is the best option! The tip gives you the ultimate precision, so it’s ideal for blemishes and pimples. Turning the concealer to its side lets, you get more coverage like the under-eye.

It’s a twistable bottom to reveal more product, but the point wears down quickly and can’t be sharpened back into shape.

Pros

  • This concealer has one of the creamiest textures I’ve found in a concealer, making it easy to blend and build on.
  • I’ve covered some scarring and mild discolouration on my skin, and it just disappears – it definitely offers some of the best coverage.

Cons

  • The shade range is disappointing – there are only six shades, and they’re almost exclusively for lighter skin tones.

True Match Concealer

True Match Concealer

This tube of True Match Concealer is in my makeup bag right now! I prefer it for the warmer weather because it’s lightweight, and I don’t feel like it will melt off my face. It only offers light to medium coverage, so I sometimes have to balance it with some powder or tinted moisturizer to add a little extra boost.

The brush has a light bristle instead of a sponge which can get a lot of product onto one sweep. It’s easy to blend out with a sponge, brush, or fingers, and as a bonus, it’s super hydrating and doesn’t sink into your pores throughout the day.

Pros

  • This concealer is versatile if you have different coverage needs all the time.
  • There is quite a bit of product in this tiny 0.17-ounce tube.

Cons

  • Again, there’s always some concealer left on the sides of the tube that the brush can’t reach.

Infallible Pro Glow Concealer

Infallible Pro Glow Concealer

The Infallible Pro Glow Concealer is formulated to feel lightweight and offer full coverage – it’s also supposed to last for sixteen hours. I’ve never tested the product’s longevity because I rarely wear makeup for sixteen hours (I’m rarely ever awake for sixteen hours straight!), so take that claim with a grain of salt.

There is a luminous touch to this concealer that brightens your skin and creates a glow that makes you look refreshed and awake. The coverage is buildable, so you can be sure to get the coverage you want for the day ahead.

Pros

  • The spongy applicator doesn’t get overloaded with concealer, so you can use a small amount and build more if you need to.
  • It matches the vast Infallible line so you can coordinate shades and get consistent coverage.

Cons

  • The shade range still isn’t very impressive – with eight shades to choose from, the darkest is the cocoa shade above.

Infallible Full Wear Concealer

Infallible Full Wear Concealer

For complete coverage, skip-the-foundation concealer, I reach for the Infallible Full Wear Concealer. I tend to apply the product for spot coverage and to refresh my under-eye. This long-lasting concealer is hydrating and settles into a natural finish that blends beautifully – L’Oréal markets this as a middle point between a concealer and a foundation, which I love so much!

The product is like an all-in-one that’s perfect for the days when you want to skip foundation and keep your complexion looking even and bright.

Pros

  • Finally, a L’Oréal line with shade variety! This concealer has 24 shades to choose from that range from the fairest of fair to ebony shades. Now their other concealers just need to catch up.
  • The formula is oil-free, won’t settle into your pores and cause pimples or blemishes, and leaves a natural, matte finish.

Cons

  • This tube is another container that’s so difficult to empty completely.

Age Perfect Radiant Concealer

Age Perfect Radiant Concealer

A concealer with mature skin in mind, this medium coverage concealer ticks all the boxes. A concern with concealer is that it will settle into fine lines and make them appear more pronounced, but while this concealer can’t smooth out fine lines, the formula illuminates skin and makes skin appear bright and youthful. With moisturizing ingredients that don’t flake, the Age Perfect Radiant Concealer ensures your makeup doesn’t age you.

Their mature skin line is infused with antioxidants, which are known to reduce the appearance of fine lines, discolouration, and other signs of aging. Even though I’m still young-ish, using this concealer for the preventative benefits can go a long way in enhancing your skin’s appearance.

Pros

  • This formula is enriched with a L’Oréal serum to make this concealer extra nourishing.
  • Compared to high-end concealers, it does the same job with the same results for a drug store price!

Cons

  • The shade range is slightly better, with twelve shades, so there’s still room for improving the range.

True Match Eye Cream Concealer

True Match Eye Cream Concealer

I know my dark circles and tired, puffy eyes are my main concern when doing my makeup – covering them up is the priority, and I can’t leave the house without it. The True Match Eye Cream Concealer is L’Oréal’s response to annoying dark circles.

It works to not only cover up discolouration and dark spots, but it contains hyaluronic acid – dermatologists show that this ingredient can moisturize the skin around the eyes and help reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

It’s really a two for one! Tackle signs of maturing skin and cover up the dark circles you don’t want to see. It’s effortless to apply by using your fingers, a sponge, or a concealer brush.

Pros

  • I love when makeup comes in tubes because I can squeeze every last bit of product out. Even when you think you’ve used it all, you can cut the end of the tube and really access the hard-to-reach concealer.
  • It’s ophthalmologist-tested, so you can feel safe using this around your eyes.

Cons

  • It’s not the most buildable formula, so it may appear too sheer depending on what you’re trying to conceal.

Alternatives to L’Oréal Concealer

If you want a comparable drug store brand or something a little more high-end, there are other amazing concealers to choose from. Here are some of my favourites!

Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Eraser

Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Eraser

This is a cult favourite in its own right! Equipped with a unique applicator, it’s incredibly blendable, wakes up the skin around your eyes and makes you look instantly refreshed. It ‘erases’ dark circles and fine lines with a goji berry and Haloxyl-enriched formula.

With seventeen different shades at a drugstore price, you can’t go wrong.

NYX Professional HD Photogenic Concealer Wand

NYX Professional HD Photogenic Concealer Wand

Another affordable drug store brand, NYX, has professional-quality cosmetics at an incredibly affordable price, and their concealer is off-the-charts amazing! With 22 shades, this line has a vast range to fit anyone’s skin tone. This emollient-rich formula is ultra-hydrating and keeps your skin looking fresh without flakes.

I love NYX for their colour correcting concealers – I have their green concealer to cancel out the redness of blemishes and irritation, yellow concealer to offset the blue and purple tones of dark circles, and pink to brighten my skin quickly! Oranges work more effectively than yellows to correct dark circles for darker skin. Colour correction can go a long way in making your complexion appear even and flawless.

Tarte Shape Tape Concealer

Tarte Shape Tape Concealer

One of the most expensive concealers, it’s worth every cent – if there were a cosmetic item worthy of a splurge, it would be Tarte Shape Tape Concealer. It’s well-loved, and Tarte is a reputable brand known for full coverage makeup that feels natural and doesn’t crease. With shea butter and mango butter, the formula is hydrating and waterproof, so it can withstand any conditions.

With 25 shades, Shape Tape is suitable for any skin tone and type. The only significant drawback is that there’s a scent, which can be irritating if you’re particularly sensitive.

FAQs

Question: Which L’Oréal concealer is the best?

Answer: The best concealer option will depend on your specific skin issues and exactly what you’re trying to conceal. If you only want to brighten your dark circles, the True Match Eye Cream Concealer would be the best option, but it will not cover a bright red pimple or hyperpigmentation very well.
So, think about what your concealer needs are and consult the list of concealers to find the one that will best suit what you want.

Question: How do you use L’Oréal concealer?

Answer: Almost all L’Oréal concealers come with applicators built-in, but that doesn’t mean you have to use them exclusively. In fact, to avoid the spread of germs and bacteria transfer, I would likely use a concealer makeup brush or a damp beauty blender to really work the product onto the area, so it looks natural.

Question: Should your concealer be lighter or darker?

Answer: Concealer should always be a touch lighter than your usual foundation – it helps brighten up your face and keeps your skin from looking dull and stark. But it’s best not to go more than a shade or two lighter, depending on your skin tone. If you go too light, your concealer can make your complexion look sallow.

Best L’Oreal Concealer: Bottom Line

L’Oréal has such an established history in the cosmetics industry that it’s nearly perfected concealers and created a formula for almost everyone. The one thing I find disappointing is the lack of colour shades in the majority of the concealers they offer. Still, hopefully, expanding the shades to at least match the Infallible Full Wear Concealer is something they’re working on!

Because of the diverse colour range and its ability to take over for foundation, the Infallible Full Wear Concealer is still my overall favourite. But you should also try out the other options to find your new go-to!
