It has a lot of great features and benefits, but as with everything, it also has its drawbacks. In this Clinique Tinted Moisturizer guide, I’ll explain it all. The last thing you would ever want to do is to buy a product and it doesn’t match your skin type.

A tinted hydrator that provides 12 hours of hydration, complexion perfection and protection all in one.
How to Choose Clinic Moisture Sheertint Hydrator
Before buying Clinique’s Moisture Surge Sheertint Hydrator, there are a few things that you must do. It’s in your best interest to find out your skin type. This product comes in a variety of categories from very dry, to combination, to oily. By understanding your skin type, you’ll be able to select the correct version of the product.
To find out your skin type, use the blot test technique. Start by gently patting your skin with blotting paper on various areas of your face. Next, hold the sheet up to the light to examine the amount of oil that’s visible. If the sheet doesn’t have much oil, you probably have dry skin.
On the other hand, if the blotting sheet shows a lot of oil on the forehead and the nose, that means you have a combination of normal and oily skin. Lastly, if the blotting paper is completely saturated with oil, you have very oily skin.
In addition to your skin type, you must know the shade of your skin in order to buy the correct Clinique Tint Hydrator. The shades begin at very light and go to medium-deep, then to very deep.
There Are Several Ways In Which You Can Determine Your Skin Tone:
View Yourself in the Light
Look at yourself in natural light. If you notice that you have a gray undertone when you’re wearing makeup, that means you haven’t chosen the correct color. Take the makeup off wait 15 minutes and find another angle of natural lighting. If you have multiple shades to try, viewing your makeup in natural lighting is the best way to verify when you’ve found the correct shade.
Look at Your Veins
Under natural light, take a look at the veins underneath your skin. If they have a purple or blue appearance, you have a cool skin tone. However, if your veins appear green or greenish-blue, your skin tone is warm. Lastly, if your veins are blue or green, then you might have a neutral skin tone.
The Gold and Silver Test
Put on gold and silver jewelry. If your skin looks better with silver jewelry, you most likely have cool undertones. On the other hand, if your skin matches best with gold jewelry, that means your skin has a warm tone.
Clinique’s Moisture Surge Hydrator Key Features
There are a few key features of Clinique’s Moisture Surge Hydrator that I must highlight. Personally, I believe these are the details of this product that truly makes it shine. Check out these incredible features:
Hydration
This tinted moisturizer isn’t called a hydrator for no reason. It provides 12 hours of hydration throughout the day. I find that to be very rare amongst most facial products.
With most moisturizers, your face will feel greasy when you first apply it, then the hydration goes away within a couple of hours. Thankfully, you won’t have that problem with this product. So, if you’re at work or out for a long day of shopping, you can expect great hydration from this face tint.
Mimetic Shade Technology
Clinique has its own technology-specific specifically for this product. Its Mimetic Shade technology is available to provide the perfect shade for your skin tone. It blends effortlessly and gives a natural finish. Even though it’s a tinted moisturizer, you don’t have to worry about having that thick, cakey makeup look.
SPF 25
Clinique made sure that this product wasn’t designed only to make you look nice was also to protect your skin. SPF is essential for shielding your skin from pollution, chemicals, and other impurities that are in the air. Not only that, but sun rays are very damaging to the skin, so you need as much protection as possible. Thankfully, you’ll get it with this product.
At Harsh Chemicals
Perhaps one of the most important aspects of this hydrator is that it doesn’t contain any parabens, phthalates, or fragrances. Therefore, there’s no need to worry about any ingredients irritating your face. If you’re someone who has sensitive skin, you don’t have to worry too much about using this product.
Pros
Next, I’ll discuss the pros and cons of this product. While there is a lot to rave about, there are also a few drawbacks. If you’re trying to find the perfect tint hydrator for your skin, it’s in your best interest to understand the good and the bad before purchasing. We’ll start with the good first. Here are the pros:
Hyaluronic Acid Contains
As if this product wasn’t already perfect enough, it also contains hyaluronic acid. If you don’t know much about hyaluronic acid, I’ll explain. It’s a substance that your body naturally produces. Its primary function is to retain water and keep your tissues hydrated and moist.
You can take it as a supplement or use it as a topical treatment, like eye drops and serum. Hyaluronic acid is great for promoting healthier skin, and it can also aid in speeding up wound healing.
This added ingredient is what helps to provide that extra moisture that lasts throughout the day. Not only does this product contain hyaluronic acid, but it also includes activated aloe water. Both ingredients work together to provide ultimate hydration for your skin.
Sweat and Humidity Resistant
When it’s hot outside, you’re going to sweat! Thankfully, when wearing this product, you don’t have to worry about your tinted Moisturizer running down your face. It’s created to shield against humidity and sweat.
The good thing about this benefit is that you don’t have to continually reapply the product to your face every couple of hours. It’s literally built to last!
Easy Application
Are you someone who likes to look like you have on makeup, but you don’t actually have the skills to apply it? If you are, you’ll love this tinted moisturizer. All you have to do is apply a little bit of it to your fingers and spread the product evenly.
There’s no need for a bunch of makeup brushes or any of that. Oh, and did I mention that it provides a sheer, natural-looking application? I believe that point is worth noting again.
That harsh makeup look isn’t very appealing—especially when you want a simple look. Luckily, this tinted hydrator will provide your skin with the coverage it needs, while also helping you to avoid the “cakey” appearance.
No Fragrance
I think the fact that this product does not contain any fragrance is considered a perk. There’s nothing worse than applying a moisturizer to your face, and it’s filled with perfume.
It’s great to smell nice, but scented facial products are generally very harsh and irritating to the skin. Not only that but what happens when you don’t like the smell of a particular product?
It’s impossible to avoid your nose when you apply a cream to your face. Unfortunately, you’ll have to deal with a strong smell all day long. But of course, you don’t have to worry about that with this tinted moisturizer.
Cons
Now that you know the good things about using this product, I’ll explain a couple of the not-so-good things. Here are the cons:
Shade Options
This product provides some incredible shade options from very light to very deep. Truthfully, there’s a shade for nearly everyone. However, the darker shades provided by Clinique might not be a good match for darker skin tones.
Even their very deep pigment is on the lighter side compared to deep-dark skin tones. Since this is a tinted hydrator, it doesn’t hurt to try the product out to see if it blends with deep-dark skin. However, upon reviewing the different shades, the darkest level provided by Clinique doesn’t seem to go to the darkest shade that it could.
The Price
Depending on who you ask, this product could either be considered affordable or too expensive. But on average, most people would categorize Clinique’s Moisture Surge Hydrator as expensive.
Depending on where you buy it, you could easily spend about $40. There are high-end facial tint moisturizers that cost more than that, but you can definitely find some that are less expensive. The main problem with the price is that it’s a bit of a gamble to pay $40 for a product that may not work for you.
However, remember that you get what you pay for. As I’ve detailed in this guide, this product has some incredible features; it’s just to provide hydration, the perfect shade match, and it includes SPF 25. Essentially, you can’t go wrong with it.
So, after reading this review, do you believe you’ll give Clinique a try?
