Best Gucci Foundation Options: Two Foundations From This Luxurious Brand

Gucci makeup is luxurious for a reason. Whenever I used any Gucci product, I first hesitated when I saw the price tag. Then I thought, “you get what you pay for.”

Sure enough, that was always the case with every Gucci product I used, including their Fluide de Beauty Fini Naturel (Natural Finish Fluid Foundation in English). This particular foundation is unique because it uses polymer technology, meaning this product alone can blur texture.

Skin texture (wrinkles, scars, etc.) isn’t something you can cover up with foundation since the product will settle into the skin’s imperfections. The fact that Gucci offers such advanced technology is remarkable.

Even though this is one of the best quality foundations on the market, I understand that not everyone can afford this product. Plus, Gucci isn’t cruelty-free, and I try to use cruelty-free beauty products whenever possible. In this best Gucci foundation options guide, I will be going over Gucci’s two most notorious foundations as well as some alternative products and advice for anyone interested in buying a Gucci foundation.

Bottom Line Up Front

Gucci is one of the most reputable designer brands, so it’s no wonder they have such high-quality foundations. Their foundations are available in various shades and offer medium coverage with a natural finish. If you’re not sure if these foundations are right for you, I’m recommending dupes at all price points.

Advice When Buying Gucci Foundation

Since Gucci foundation comes with a large price tag, I want to offer some advice if you’re interested in these products. This advice will include the target customer and how to ensure you’ll buy a product you love.

Who Is This Foundation For?

Foundation Shade

Gucci’s Natural Finish Fluid Foundation is technically suitable for all skin types, though it is most popular among those with combination skin. That’s because the foundation is lightweight and has a silky texture, which is most comfortable for people with oily skin types.

But even those with normal and dry skin can feel the benefits of wearing this foundation. I have dry skin, and I prefer foundations with a lightweight formula.

The Matte Beauty Powder is more of a setting powder, but it can give light coverage to those who prefer patting a quick powder on their face. The powder is best for those with oily skin, but anyone can use it a little bit to set their foundation.

Buy From a Reputable Source

I will always say this — be wary when you order beauty products from Amazon! And there’s NO reason why you should order anything Gucci from Amazon. There’s a good chance the seller took Gucci packaging, filled it with a low-quality product, and put it on sale at Amazon at Gucci prices.

You can buy Gucci foundation on their website, or you can shop at another source. I’ve always purchased Gucci products at Sephora. Nordstrom is the only other retailer I can find that sells Gucci products.

Find the Right Shade

The Natural Finish Fluid Foundation and Matte Beauty Powder come in numerous shades, but matching your shade can be difficult if you don’t have the product. As a former Sephora employee, I can honestly say that they have one of the best foundation matching systems.

When I worked there, they had a device called Color IQ that took pictures of your skin and gave you a code that matched with all foundations in the store. Sephora hasn’t offered Color IQ recently since they’re relaunching the product.

The article says that the new Color IQ was introduced last year, but I visited my local Sephora late last year to get color matched, and they still didn’t have the latest Color IQ yet. By now, all Sephora stores have the new Color IQ.

Find the Right Shade

If they don’t, there are other options to get matched to the Gucci foundation. Tell a consultant that you want color matched to the Gucci Natural Finish Fluid Foundation, and they will test three shades on you. Choose the shade you like the most (I always asked the client for their approval since everyone has their shade preference).

If you don’t like the Gucci foundation, go to the Sephora website and find a new foundation you want. Click the “Find Your Shade” link to get matched to the new foundation.

If you’ve already been matched to a different foundation, you can use this link to find your Gucci foundation shade. Note that the Sephora website will only show the perfect match. If you can’t find your shade, try another shade in the foundation you searched for or another foundation you color-matched previously. You can always go to the store and get matched to the Gucci foundation.

As stated previously, Gucci foundation is also sold at Nordstrom. I don’t know their foundation matching policies. If you prefer going to Nordstrom, I suggest asking a consultant.

Get a Sample

I always suggest getting a foundation sample before buying it. Part of the reason is the shade-matching concerns that I mentioned previously.

Getting a sample is also important to ensure the shade doesn’t change throughout the day. Oxidizing is a big problem that I have with many foundations. If you don’t know, oxidation is when your foundation gets darker. The process occurs when the oils in your skin and the pigment of your foundation react with air.

I always buy a lighter foundation if that happens to me, but a sample is a no-cost way to see if your foundation stays the same shade throughout the day.

When I worked at Sephora, every client was allowed three samples. I’m not sure if that policy has changed. You can always go into Sephora or Nordstrom and ask if there are Gucci foundation sheet samples. I like the sheet samples because you have multiple color options, and there’s enough in the sheet to last for one application. You can also use darker and lighter shades to contour.

Know the Coverage You Need

The Gucci Natural Finish Fluid Foundation has medium coverage, and the Matte Beauty Powder has light coverage. If you prefer a fuller coverage foundation, there are other options for you in the low, mid, and high tiers. I will recommend a few alternatives to you in another section.

Fluide de Beaute Fini Naturel (Natural Finish Fluid Foundation)

Fluide de Beaute Fini Naturel (Natural Finish Fluid Foundation)

The Natural Finish Fluid Foundation is Gucci’s liquid foundation that has received stellar reviews. Here’s more information about this foundation.

Pros

  • Suitable for all skin types, including oily/combination
  • Vegan
  • Medium and buildable coverage
  • Natural finish
  • A liquid formula that’s easy to apply
  • Lasts all-day

Cons

  • Gucci isn’t a cruelty-free brand
  • Have to shake the product since it has a watery texture
  • Oxidizes
  • Expensive

About the Product

Gucci’s Natural Finish Fluid Foundation is a medium-coverage yet buildable foundation that has a natural finish, acting more like a second skin than a traditional foundation. Gucci developed this product for all skin types, but those with oily/combination skin will benefit most from the lightweight texture of this product.

How to Apply

I recommend applying this product with a brush. Foundation brushes grab onto the product better than Beauty Blenders and other similar sponges, so you’ll be getting more for your buck when using a foundation brush. I also find that brushes spread and blend foundation easier, so you’ll get more professional results.

Poudre de Beaute Mat Naturel (Matte Beauty Powder)

Poudre de Beaute Mat Naturel (Matte Beauty Powder)

When wearing a liquid foundation, it’s important to set the foundation with a powder. Gucci’s Matte Beauty Powder offers light coverage and a subtle matte finish.

Pros

  • Natural finish
  • Light coverage, can be worn over foundation or alone
  • Vegan
  • Good for all skin types, especially oily/combination skin
  • Available in a convenient compact
  • Light texture
  • Smooths imperfections

Cons

  • Has a scent
  • Gucci isn’t a cruelty-free brand
  • Expensive

About the Product

You can wear this compact over foundation or alone. The coverage is light but buildable. Like the liquid foundation, this compact will smooth imperfections. It’s also ideal for all skin types, specifically those with oily/combination skin. The compact is made with emollient agents and micro-reflecting lamellar powders to provide a smooth application and to last all day.

How to Apply

The compact comes with its sponge, but I personally never use those things. I always use my face brush. I start by applying powder in my T-zone and applying it all over the rest of my face and then putting a little powder under my eyes. Apply more when necessary.

Is Gucci Foundation Worth It?

The Matte Beauty Powder is $86, and the Natural Finish Fluid Foundation is $88. I think the price is worth it if you’re looking for a high-end foundation. Both products apply well, and they last all day. I save high-end foundations for special moments, such as dates and going out.

Low Tier Alternatives to Gucci Foundation

As you can see from those prices, Gucci foundation is extremely expensive. And with the cost of living being so high, that money can go toward your groceries. If you still want to look fabulous at a much lower price, here are a few comparable foundations.

The Ordinary Serum Foundation

The Ordinary Serum Foundation

The best Gucci alternative is The Ordinary Serum Foundation. The Ordinary formulated this foundation to fit all skin types, though I think it’s ideal for dry and mature skin. Even so, The Ordinary developed this foundation to fit all skin types.

This foundation delivers more coverage than the Gucci foundation but has a natural finish. The texture of the Serum Foundation is also lightweight, very similar to the Gucci foundation. Plus, the Serum Foundation lasts all day. Plus, it’s $5 compared to $88!

There are some downsides to this product. Because it’s so popular, The Ordinary is out of many shades. I also see this foundation is priced down, so there’s a chance The Ordinary is discontinuing this product.

Pros

  • Full and buildable coverage
  • Natural finish
  • Extremely affordable
  • Lightweight
  • Applies smoothly

Cons

  • It may be too heavy for oily/combination skin types
  • Out of many shades

L’Oreal 24-Hour Fresh Wear Foundation

L'Oreal 24-Hour Fresh Wear Foundation

This L’Oreal foundation offers many of the same benefits as the Gucci foundation and more. Like the Gucci foundation, this L’Oreal dupe is made in a breathable and lightweight texture. L’Oreal promises 24-hour staying power.

This foundation has a medium coverage that you can build to full coverage and has a natural finish. This foundation is suitable for all skin types, though I think the formula is better for dry and mature skin types (this product contains oil). The Fresh Wear Foundation also includes an SPF, which is a huge plus for me.

There are some qualities of the L’Oreal foundation that I don’t like. L’Oreal says this foundation is non-comedogenic, but I have yet to use a L’Oreal product that doesn’t clog my pores. I also have sensitive skin and have always reacted terribly to most L’Oreal products I’ve used. As long as acne and sensitivity aren’t skin concerns, I suggest trying this product.

Pros

  • Lightweight and breathable
  • Long-lasting
  • Affordable
  • Medium coverage that you can build to full coverage
  • Natural finish

Cons

  • Has a scent
  • Not a good option for sensitive and acne-prone skin
  • Contains oil

Undone Beauty Unfoundation Matte Tint

Undone Beauty Unfoundation Matte Tint

If you’re looking for an everyday foundation, I suggest this product. This product has good coverage but is very lightweight. Like the Gucci foundation, this product blurs your imperfections. This is a better product for oily skin types, but there is a glowing alternative for those with dry/dull skin.

And on top of that, this product is affordable. It’s $14, so this is a great product to apply for nights out and during the day when you’re running errands. Unlike the Gucci foundation, this product isn’t long-lasting at all.

Pros

  • Good coverage
  • Lightweight
  • Smooths out the look of imperfections
  • Easy to apply and remove

Cons

  • Not long-lasting

Rimmel Stay Matte Pressed Powder

Rimmel Stay Matte Pressed Powder

If you’re looking for a pressed powder alternative to Gucci, I recommend this product. It locks in your foundation all day and mattifies the skin. It has a natural finish — it doesn’t look cakey. And seriously, it’s $4! The downside is it contains talc.

You’ll also have to reapply the powder throughout the day. Otherwise, I recommend this powder if you want something to set your foundation or give natural coverage for a no-makeup look.

Pros

  • Affordable
  • Rimmel is an accessible brand found at every drugstore
  • Mattifies foundation
  • Controls oil

Cons

  • Not the longest-lasting powder, will have to reapply throughout the day
  • Contains talc

Mid-Tier Alternatives

Mid-tier makeup starts in the $20 range. These products are still accessible and high-quality. Most of these brands and products are the ones that I turn to for my own foundation choices.

Anastasia Beverly Hills Luminous Foundation

Anastasia Beverly Hills Luminous Foundation

This Anastasia dupe has many similar qualities to the Gucci foundation but is different in some ways. Like the Gucci foundation, the Luminous foundation has a natural finish and medium coverage. Unlike the Gucci foundation, I think the Luminous Foundation covers more than blurs.

Oily skin types may be turned off by the luminous quality, but I don’t think this foundation has that shiny appearance. I still suggest wearing matte powder over this foundation. This foundation is long-lasting, so you still get your money’s worth. I’m also impressed with the color selection.

There are some issues I have with this foundation. It’s not the easiest product to apply since it smears over the skin. The packaging is also not the best since the product is hard to open.

Pros

  • Lightweight
  • Good for different skin types, even though it says “luminous”
  • Long-lasting
  • Medium and buildable coverage

Cons

  • It doesn’t apply or blend easily

Sephora Collection Best Skin Ever Liquid Foundation

Sephora Collection Best Skin Ever Liquid Foundation

When I worked at Sephora, I would always recommend the Sephora Collection foundations. They’re reasonably priced and have great coverage. I also never had problems with any Sephora Collection foundations irritating my skin or causing breakouts. I will say that Sephora Collection foundations have increased in price over the last few years; this one is $25, and the foundations from this brand used to be under $20.

This foundation has a lot in common with the Gucci foundation. It has medium coverage and applies easily. The Best Skin Ever Foundation is formulated with hydrating ingredients such as hyaluronic acid. If you have oily skin, I suggest wearing a light moisturizer or primer under this.

This isn’t the longest-lasting foundation on this list, so I would only wear this as a daytime or work foundation. I am impressed with the color selection, nearly anyone can find a foundation that matches their skin tone.

Pros

  • Decent price for a mid-tier foundation
  • Hydrating foundation, contains skin-friendly ingredients like hyaluronic acid
  • Applies smoothly
  • Medium coverage

Cons

  • Thicker formula than the Gucci foundation
  • Not long-lasting

Bareminerals Matte Finish Loose Mineral Foundation

Bareminerals Matte Finish Loose Mineral Foundation

Back when I worked at Sephora, if you told me that I would be recommending these Bareminerals powders, I would think you would be out of your mind. I hated these powder foundations for the longest time (though I always loved Bareminerals’ liquid foundations) and would always refer clients to Tarte’s Amazonian Clay Powder Foundation. Now, I think Tarte fell behind in quality, and Bareminerals stepped up their game.

I was never a fan of powder foundation, especially for my skin type. But for oily skin types, this powder foundation is a luxury.

It covers well and offers medium coverage, more than what the Gucci compact offers. There are also more shade options here than the Gucci powder. I still don’t think these powders are the best option for mature skin since the product settles into wrinkles.

Pros

  • Medium coverage
  • Mattifying finish, great for oily skin
  • Plenty of shade options
  • It feels lightweight for a powder foundation
  • A good option for sensitive skin

Cons

  • The container is small for the price
  • More expensive on the Sephora website than on the Bareminerals website
  • Not the longest-lasting foundation
  • Not the best option for mature skin

Huda Beauty #FauxFilter Luminous Matte Foundation

Huda Beauty #FauxFilter Luminous Matte Foundation

There are many pros and cons to this foundation. One of my favorite aspects of this foundation is the coverage. When Huda Beauty says it’s full coverage, it really is full coverage.

Does the title “luminous matte” confuse you? It confused me, too. Don’t worry, this is actually a great foundation for oily/combination skin types. It does have a matte finish but still doesn’t make your skin look dull (which has been my problem with matte foundations).

However, this foundation has some downsides for the $55 price tag. It not only doesn’t last but is transferable.

Pros

  • Full coverage
  • Lots of shade options
  • Matte yet luminous finish
  • Cute packaging
  • Easy to blend

Cons

  • Thick formula
  • Not long-lasting
  • Transferable

High Tier Alternatives

Do you not mind the Gucci price tag but still want some alternatives? Here are a few of my product recommendations.

Westman Atelier Vital Skincare Complexion Drops

Westman Atelier Vital Skincare Complexion Drops

If you truly want the same weightless feeling of the Gucci foundation, I suggest this foundation from Westman Atelier.

Like the Gucci foundation, this product blurs imperfections. It has light-to-medium buildable coverage with a natural finish to even out the skin tone, making this a good daily foundation. It also applies very smoothly and easily.

These are called skincare drops for a reason — this product has so many skincare benefits. This product contains sunflower and almond oils, ginseng extract, Tsubaki oil, pomegranate extract, a ginger root complex, and Westman Atelier’s own Urban Shield Complex. This foundation will nourish, brighten, firm, calm, and protect your skin against pollution. Your skin will not only look like a second skin but will feel healthier.

The only thing I will say is this foundation isn’t suitable for oily skin because of the oils it contains. However, this is a great option for those with dry skin. My only issue with this foundation is it has a weird smell.

Pros

  • Many skin-loving ingredients
  • It will make your skin feel moisturized and healthy
  • Light-to-medium buildable coverage
  • Great packaging
  • Easy to apply
  • It doesn’t feel heavy
  • Many shade options

Cons

  • Weird scent

Very Valentino 24-Hour Longwear Liquid Foundation

Very Valentino 24-Hour Longwear Liquid Foundation

I really like this foundation because it applies smoothly and easily. Valentino not only offers so many shades but also offers a range of undertones to better match the skin. It does have a medium coverage, but like the Gucci foundation, the coverage is great and covers imperfections with ease.

And Valentino isn’t lying about the 24-hour tag — this product really does sit on the skin all day long. Even so, the foundation is weightless and feels comfortable on your skin. It only has a semi-matte finish, so I don’t recommend this foundation to those with really oily skin.

Pros

  • Lightweight
  • Natural finish
  • Medium-to-full buildable coverage
  • Contains SPF 26
  • Long-lasting

Cons

  • Only a semi-matte finish
  • Expensive
  • Has a scent

Dior Airflash Spray Foundation

Dior Airflash Spray Foundation

I actually tried a sample of this foundation and loved it! The only reason I didn’t buy it was the $78 price tag.

If you don’t mind paying that price, know that this will give you perfect skin. I love these spray foundations because they blur imperfections, even texture problems such as pores and wrinkles. You don’t even need to do a lot of blending with this product.

It has a radiant finish, so I don’t recommend this product for oily skin types. Though it is expensive, you get 70 ml of product, which is a decent size. My Make Up For Ever foundation is only 30 ml, so you really get what you pay for.

Pros

  • It will give you perfect skin
  • Full coverage with a blurring effect
  • Easy to use
  • You don’t need to blend it that much

Cons

  • Expensive
  • Out of many of the shades, it may be discontinued

FAQs

Question: Which celebrities use Gucci foundation?

Answer: Actually, I can’t find any. But there are celebrities who use some of the alternatives. GiGi Hadid is a fan of Dior foundation, and Hailey Baldwin even uses L’Oreal foundation.

Question: How do I determine good foundation quality?

Answer: I keep these points in mind:
• Price (but buy what you can afford)
• Brand reputation
• Natural look
• Shade range
From here, I determine other qualities, such as coverage and finish, based on preference and different skin types. This is why you saw many coverage options, formulations, and finishes on this list.

Question: I want flawless-looking skin. Which of these foundations should I use?

Answer: This depends on your skin type and preference. But if you can find the Dior Airflash Foundation in your shade, that one is guaranteed to give you flawless skin. The Gucci one has medium coverage, which may not be what you want.

Best Gucci Foundation: Bottom Line

The Natural Finish Fluid Foundation and Matte Beauty Powder are luxurious items to add to your makeup bag. Even though these products come with a large price tag, you get what you pay for.

These products are suitable for oily/combination skin because they have a matte finish, though anyone will appreciate the lightweight texture of the product. If you’re unsure if these foundations will work for you, I recommend checking out my alternative suggestions.
