More people are starting to care about their skin than ever before. So much so to where the skincare industry will be worth over $185 billion by 2027. Among some of the most popular products are moisturizers. Moisturizers prevent your skin from drying out and getting irritated. Many moisturizers also protect your cells and provide other benefits, such as anti-aging effects.

But what if your moisturizer could also prime your skin for makeup application? This is where the Purlisse Matcha Green Tea Antioxidant Priming Moisturizer comes in. It’s a lightweight moisturizer that you can use alone or under makeup. I’ve actually been using this primer for a while and really like it, so in this Purlisse Matcha Green Tea Antioxidant Priming Moisturizer Review find out what I think about it.

More Information About This Product

purlise moisturizer

The Purlisse Matcha Green Tea Priming Moisturizer is a moisturizer that doubles as a foundation primer. It’s packed with antioxidants such as vitamin E to moisturize and protect from aging symptoms. It’s an oil-free moisturizer that’s very lightweight. You can wear it alone or under makeup. It will prime your skin for makeup application so your foundation glides effortlessly.

Multitasking Properties

What really got me intrigued with this product is how it’s a two-in-one moisturizer plus foundation primer. I don’t see many products like this, so I had to try it. But it’s important to note its effectiveness for both tasks.

Moisturizer

Keep in mind, I usually wear this product under makeup, but I used it enough to have a good view of its moisturizing capabilities.

Overall, it’s a good moisturizer. It’s very lightweight but still leaves my skin feeling hydrated.

The Purlisse moisturizer is perfect for the summer since it’s so hot and my face doesn’t need a lot of moisture. But I first started using this primer during the cold winter months, where I get extremely dry and my eczema breaks out. This moisturizer alone wasn’t cutting it. There were times I had to use my separate vitamin E moisturizer, which has a richer formula than the Purlisse.

I can definitely see anyone else with dryer skin not being too fond of this product. You can use it as a primer over your normal moisturizer. But this leads us to the next point.

A small amount is enough to cover your face. If your skin is dry, you will probably need more. That’s why it’s a fine moisturizer for the summer. But if your skin is dry, you’ll want something richer. Looking at other reviews, those with dry skin mentioned this product did nothing for them and they gave it away.

Primer

I like the convenience of using this moisturizer with no separate primer. But if you really want a foundation look that lasts, don’t rely on this product. I wear a natural-looking foundation that doesn’t offer a ton of coverage, but this primer doesn’t work as well as others.

This doesn’t mean you shouldn’t use this product. I say use this moisturizer and then a second primer over it, as long as you don’t have dry skin. I’m only using this primer now because I don’t want to wear too many products on my face during the summer.

How to Use This Product

I simply squeeze a dime-size amount on my fingertips and spread it on my face. I always start in the middle, blending outward to the sides of my cheeks. Then, I bring the moisturizer to the chin and forehead. Then, I blend it all in. If your skin is dry, I would use more product or use a second moisturizer in addition to this product.

Packaging and Price

The packaging is very pretty. It’s a green tube with leaves. Looks very fresh and natural. It’s an easy squeeze tube that doesn’t release too much product.

The Purlisse website lists this moisturizer at $35. Not sure if that’s in USD or CAD. At 1.7 fl oz/50 mL, you don’t get a ton of product for the price. My drugstore vitamin E moisturizer is a fraction of the price and three times the size and has lasted me for months.

Other Things to Note

Looking around at other reviews, many people complained about the fragrance. Even though Purlisse is a great brand for sensitive skin, the moisturizer does have a scent and some people reported the scent irritated their skin.

Other reviewers stated the rest of the products in the Purlisse line are better. I especially hear great things about their BB Cream, which I mentioned in the alternatives section. I honestly am curious to see if their other products are better,

About Purlisse

I never really heard of Purlisse before, so I wanted to dig more into this brand. Purlisse was created by Jennifer Yen, a Chinese-American former actress from Alabama (I’m kind of nerding out because she was in Power Rangers). Her brand focuses on multitasking skincare products made with high-performance ingredients and follows traditional Asian skincare practices.

When Yen was an actress, she had the inspiration to start this brand after her skin was affected by heavy makeup and spending all day under bright lights. To restore her skin, she discovered her grandma’s skincare secrets which worked. From here, she was inspired to introduce these skincare secrets to the world.

Alternatives

The Purlisse Priming Moisturizer is great if you want a lightweight moisturizer. However, I’m not impressed by its multitasking properties. Here are the closest alternatives I could find.

Purlisse Perfect Glow BB Cream

purlise bb cream

I personally love using BB creams if I need moisture, a primer, and extra coverage. Purlisse also sells a BB Cream. It has a lightweight formula and is available in different shades. Plus, the BB cream has an SPF 30. On Amazon, the BB cream received a 4.7/5 star rating, if that also says anything.

Boscia Revitalizing Black Charcoal Hydration Gel

Boscia Revitalizing Black Charcoal Hydration Gel

When I worked at Sephora, I would recommend this moisturizer constantly to clients with oily/combination skin or those who simply wanted a lightweight moisturizer. The Boscia Black Charcoal Hydration Gel improves skin texture, minimizes pores, and brightens skin. The formula is a very smooth gel that feels extremely comfortable on the skin.

Good Molecules Silicone-Free Priming Moisturizer

Good Molecules Silicone-Free Priming Moisturizer

I never tried this moisturizer, but from reading the description, it’s very similar to the Purlisse Priming Moisturizer.

The Good Molecules Priming Moisturizer will not only hydrate your skin but will also prep your skin for makeup. The moisturizer is made with shea butter, macadamia seed oil, and a natural silicone alternative. You can use it as a daily moisturizer or under makeup, Plus, it’s only $12!

Peach & Lily Matcha Pudding Antioxidant Cream

Peach & Lily Matcha Pudding Antioxidant Cream

I found this product on Ulta and figured it was a good one to mention here. This moisturizer not only intensely moisturizes the skin but also delivers a hefty dose of antioxidants. Even though this moisturizer is extremely hydrating, it also has a weightless formula. This is one of Ulta’s best-selling moisturizers, so it’s definitely worth considering.

First Aid Beauty Coconut Skin Smoothie Priming Moisturizer

First Aid Beauty Coconut Skin Smoothie Priming Moisturizer

I’ve used First Aid Beauty so many times and I absolutely love their products. This is one I would see all the time at Sephora and heard great things about it. The Coconut Smoothie Priming Moisturizer will combat dryness and other skin issues that will also prime your skin for makeup application.

Tarte Drink of H2O Hydrating Boost Moisturizer

drink of h20

I was using this moisturizer for a while and this is another one I recommend if you want a lightweight, daily moisturizer. The Drink of H2O Hydrating Boost Moisturizer is a gel moisturizer that’s completely vegan and is formulated with electrolytes to treat dry skin and keep your skin soft and supple all day. Your skin also looks glowing and dewy all day.

Murad Nutrient-Charged Water Gel

Murad Nutrient-Charged Water Gel

I absolutely love Murad products, so that’s why I’m shocked I never heard of this one. This is an extremely lightweight gel moisturizer that not only hydrates but locks in moisture. It’s formulated with five vitamins, five minerals, and five peptides to strengthen and hydrate the skin.

FAQs

Question: Is Purlisse a Good Brand?

Answer: Purlisse has generally received positive reviews. They’re especially popular among those who are passionate about skincare, specifically those with sensitive skin. Yen formed the company in 2001 so they have attracted a cult following.

Question: Does Purlisse Use Silicone in Their Products?

Answer: First, let’s discuss why silicone is bad in skincare products. Silicone acts as a barrier to trap dirt, oil, and dead skin cells. This is especially bad for those with acne-prone skin because silicones can make acne worse.

With that being said, does Purlisse use silicone in its products? Yes, actually.

Looking at the ingredients in the Priming Moisturizer, I see Dimethicone Phenoxyethanol. Phenoxyethanol is an ingredient that actually is found in green tea, but Dimethicone is a silicone-based polymer that’s commonly used as a lubricant. It’s very slippery; I’ve heard some hair conditioners made with Dimethicone are “full of cones” because they make your shower so slippery.

In addition, that BB cream I mentioned previously has silicones. It’s made with Cyclopentasiloxane, which is a non-volatile silicone. Pretty much, it means it doesn’t stay on the skin. It’s used because it makes your skin feel smooth.

Question: Are Purlisse Products Noncomedogenic?

Answer: “Noncomedogenic” is a term you’ll find on different skincare products. It’s a fancy word meaning it won’t clog your pores. Sources have said their products are noncomedogenic. I have acne-prone skin and I can attest that no Purlisse product has ever caused a breakout.

Question: Is Purlisse Natural?

Answer: They don’t promote their products are natural; rather, they say their products are “pure.” Purlisse products are safe and just about anyone can use them. Their products aren’t made with dangerous ingredients, such as petrochemicals, parabens, phthalates, and propylene glycol. Their products are FDA-approved and they also conduct allergy tests.

Question: Is Purlisse Cruelty-Free?

Answer: Yes, Purlisse definitely promotes their products as cruelty-free and they never test on animals. They also don’t use animal products in their ingredients. Even though some products list beeswax, they only use synthetic beeswax.

Purlisse Matcha Green Tea Antioxidant Priming Moisturizer Review: Bottomline

With more people becoming interested in skincare, you likely came across the Purlisse line. Their products aren’t made with harmful ingredients and are cruelty-free. The Purlisse Priming Moisturizer is very lightweight and feels comfortable on the skin. It also doubles as a foundation primer.

However, I would recommend using it as a daily moisturizer and not a primer. It’s also a good idea to check out some of the alternatives, especially since some are cheaper.
