Cover Girl+Olay Simply Ageless 3 in 1 Liquid Foundation Review

So, I dived into the hype of CoverGirl + Olay's Simply Ageless 3-in-1 Foundation, and here's the scoop! Promising a youthful glow, this anti-aging marvel tackles wrinkles, hydrates, and tones. At 29, I may not be mature, but acne scars? Check! Pros: Great for mature skin, all-day glam, and moisture galore. Cons: Slightly cakey start, and dear CoverGirl, shade-finding needs an upgrade! 🎨 Blurring powers? Oh yes! But alas, not the best for acne-prone pals. Scented, but lasting glam? Absolutely! Overall? Hyped and approved!

Pros

  • deal for mature skin and those battling acne scars.
  • All-day wear with good coverage and mega hydration.
  • Keeps the skin moisturized and radiant.

Cons

  • A bit cakey initially, blending required for that flawless finish.
  • Shade-Seeking Struggle

The CoverGirl + Olay Simply Ageless 3-in-1 Foundation has seriously been making waves. It promises to improve skin tone, reduce the look of wrinkles, firm skin, and leave skin feeling hydrated all day.

But is this makeup foundation all it’s hyped up to be? I decided to try it for myself. Even though I’m 29 years old and don’t exactly have mature skin (though I feel older for my age), I do have acne scars and tend to buy products for mature women to treat my acne scars and ensure makeup doesn’t settle into those lines.

EDIT: I wore this foundation again and my skin ended up breaking out. I definitely don’t recommend this foundation for those with acne-prone skin.

What It Does

The CoverGirl website promises the foundation will give wearers a youthful glow and reduce the look of fine lines and wrinkles. The foundation is made with ingredients such as vitamin C and hyaluronic acid, so your skin is hydrated and radiant. Your face will look smooth and flawless, giving anyone a more youthful appearance.

Buying the Foundation

Cover Girl+Olay Simply Ageless 3 in 1 Liquid Foundation Review

CoverGirl is a very easy brand to find just about anywhere. I bought this foundation at my local Walgreens. This foundation is a little more expensive than typical CoverGirl foundations — I paid $18. Let’s put it this way, the Sephora foundation I like to use is only a little more expensive than this one.

My biggest qualm with CoverGirl is they offer no resources to find your shade. I checked their website, nothing. Walgreens had no open samples, and there were hardly any mirrors around. I had to hold the bottom of the bottle up to my face in whatever mirror I could find to match my shade.

I just so happened to choose the perfect one, 220 Creamy Natural. While it’s slightly chalky looking at first, it does blend into my skin after a bit.

Applying the Foundation

HD

This foundation is really thick. Thicker than what I expected. I put two pumps of it on my wrist, and that was even too much. Because the formula is thick, it does take a bit to blend. I would use a clean foundation brush with this foundation. However, I also saw reviewers apply it with a Beauty Blender and had beautiful results.

The reason for the thick consistency is the first ingredient Cyclopentasiloxane, a silicone. Silicones give the foundation that rich feeling and they blend into your skin well. While it doesn’t pose a risk to your health, it may cause mild irritation in some.

It’s actually not surprising to see silicone-based foundations. Make Up For Ever’s HD Foundation has the same silicone as its first ingredient, and I’ve been using that foundation for years. The main thing that threw me off at first was the cakiness. I noticed the foundation looked chalky and cakey when I first applied it. However, that goes away when you blend out the foundation.

Coverage

I’m really impressed with the coverage here. I would say it’s medium-to-full and blendable. Let’s put it this way. I was able to cover up a zit without using concealer. I’m most impressed with its blurring powers.

I only used a basic Mac primer with this foundation, no blur or pore-minimizing primer at all. Yet, this foundation really blurred the appearance of my acne scars very well, better than my Make Up For Ever foundation. I’m definitely going to use this foundation up!

Finish

covergirl + olay foundation

Even though this is a moisturizing foundation, it has a matte finish. I really like that; even though my skin is more on the dry side, I don’t like dewy finishes. As I stated previously, the foundation blurred my acne scars. It looked a little cakey at first, but all of that went away.

Even though I went over it with a concealer, the foundation did a great job at disguising my acne. While the foundation is marketed to mature women, I think this is a great foundation if you want natural-looking coverage. And for younger people, it’s especially great if you have acne scars like me.

The Scent

The main drawback for many people is the scent. It has a very fresh, almost laundry-like scent. It wasn’t a big drawback for me but I was confused by it. Since when were foundations scented? I don’t struggle with fragrance sensitivities, but I know others do, so that would be the main thing to consider when buying the foundation.

After Hours of Wearing It

I wore this foundation for several hours, and it lasted well. It didn’t fade, oxidize, or really change in any way. I do want to mention that I stayed home last night. While the weather is getting cooler here in Florida, all foundations have to be put through the “swamp heat” test before I can truly say whether or not they last.

I do want to point out that some reviewers complained about this foundation oxidizing. I didn’t have this issue, but I also don’t have that problem too often. If foundations tend to oxidize on your skin, I suggest keeping that in mind before buying this foundation.

I was mainly concerned with breakouts. I had to stop wearing all drugstore foundations because it would break out my skin. CoverGirl, Revlon, L’Oreal, they all broke my skin out. The only exception is Physician’s Formula, but it still looks extremely cakey.

Fortunately, the Simply Ageless foundation hasn’t broken out my skin at all! Let’s hope it stays that way when I wear this foundation again.

Advice

While I do like this foundation, I do want to offer some advice to ensure you get the best benefits. From reading other reviews, it looks like I did some stuff differently compared to other users.

Moisturize Before

I always moisturize my skin before makeup application, and so should you! Even though this foundation is formulated with hyaluronic acid, I saw some reviewers complain about the foundation drying out their skin. For this foundation, I used my general moisturizer: the Neutrogena Multi-Vitamin Nourishing Night Cream. It smells awful but it really does do the trick.

Use a Great Primer

Primer

For this foundation, I used the Mac Prep + Prime Primer. A primer is necessary for any foundation because it creates a silky surface, ensuring your foundation looks better and lasts longer. But considering some of the common problems associated with this foundation, such as oxidation and fading, it’s more vital you use a great primer.

Mac makes excellent primers, but there are other great ones out there. I absolutely love Tarte’s primers, specifically their Timeless Smoothing Primer. I’ve also been using Smashbox primers for as long as I can remember. If you want something more affordable, Elf is famous for its high-quality primers at low prices. I also use Garnier’s BB cream if I want more hydration and coverage, but you wouldn’t need that for this CoverGirl foundation. CoverGirl also offers a corresponding primer for this foundation, and it’s worth looking into.

Set the Foundation

In addition to priming the skin, setting the foundation reduces shine, prevents foundation from rubbing off, and certain powders will blur and cover imperfections. Even though you don’t have to worry about shininess with this matte foundation, a great powder will prevent the foundation from slipping off your skin.

I used my absolutely HG: Make Up For Ever’s HD Microfinishing Loose Powder for this foundation. CoverGirl also makes great powders, and they have a corresponding powder that matches this foundation.

Don’t Forget the Setting Spray

After applying your foundation, don’t forget to set it with a setting spray. Setting spray is formulated with unique ingredients that prolong the life of your foundation. This protects your foundation against creasing and smudging so your makeup looks fresh all day.

While there are pricey setting sprays on the market, the best setting spray I’ve used is the Rimmel Stay Matte Fix & Go Setting Spray. I maybe got it for $5? And it absolutely does the job! My only complaint is the stream is thicker compared to the more prestigious brands. If you want a simple mist, I suggest using the Urban Decay setting spray.

Alternatives

While I do really like this foundation, there are other alternatives on the market. Here are a few others I recommend.

Olay Total Effects Tone Correcting CC Cream

Olay

If tone correction is what you want in an anti-aging foundation, then I suggest this one. Since Olay teamed up with CoverGirl for their foundation, it only makes sense that they create a product of their own of the same quality.

While it’s slightly more expensive, this CC cream feels weightless, includes an SPF, is very moisturizing, offers seven skincare benefits, and will make your skin look even-toned and radiant. The only downside is it looks like this product doesn’t offer as good coverage as the CoverGirl foundation, so I recommend using this as a primer.

Clinique Even Better Refresh Hydrating and Repairing Makeup

Clinique even better refresh

If you really want an anti-aging foundation that gets the job done, try this Clinique foundation. While it is pricier than the CoverGirl foundation ($34), it’s made with powerful ingredients that moisturize and revitalize skin for a more youthful look. Plus, this foundation offers full coverage, so it can cover all of your imperfections while still looking natural.

CoverGirl Outlast Extreme Wear 3-in-1 Foundation

Covergirl

I do like CoverGirl’s foundations, so I figured I would offer one that’s a bit more affordable if you don’t need all of the skincare benefits. This foundation acts as a primer, foundation, and concealer. The coverage is insanely full yet still looks natural. It doesn’t have a cakey look and feels light on the skin. It’s long-lasting and available in a variety of shades. Plus, it’s made with an SPF.

FAQs

Question: I Have Dry Skin. Is This Foundation Good for Me?

Answer: This really depends. While this foundation is moisturizing, I suggest using a high-quality moisturizer underneath. But I have read reviews where this foundation still isn’t moisturizing enough for dry skin. I have dry skin, and this foundation worked for me, so all I can say is try it and make sure you can return it if it doesn’t help your dry skin.

Question: Is the Texture Creamy?

Answer: It’s very creamy, but it’s also silky, blending into your skin very easily. It’s not greasy or liquidy at all — this foundation is extremely thick in texture.

Question: Is This Foundation Made With a Sunscreen?

Answer: Surprisingly, no. This foundation doesn’t offer sunscreen at all. I would wear a moisturizer with sunscreen or a separate sunscreen before applying this foundation.

Cover Girl+Olay Simply Ageless 3 in 1 Liquid Foundation Review: Bottomline

I think the CoverGirl + Olay Simply Ageless Foundation deserves the hype it’s receiving. When I used it, the foundation offered excellent coverage and still looked natural. Even though I don’t have mature skin, I do have acne scars, and this foundation improved the look of my skin texture drastically. While it does look a bit cakey at first, your skin looks close to flawless after you blend and set in the foundation.
